Windows Server 2012 R2 on RHEV 3.3

Latest response

Greetings!
We have an odd situation involving RHEV 3.3 and Windows Server 2012 R2. We can successfully launch the Windows Setup installer on a bare metal system or Hyper-V instance, but when we try to boot a RHEV 3.3 hosted VM using the same ISO file, the setup installer never launches, and we get an odd reboot loop. Has anyone ever seen this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Kermit, can you provide more details on odd reboot loop? What exactly do you see on the console of this guest when the VM display is active for X-number of seconds? Are you sure, you have selected the ISO/CD-ROM as the first boot-device? I would also confirm if the ISO's md5sum matches with other copies.

I have no means of inserting screen shots, as I can't use cloud based services here at work, and the bulliten board only supports Markdown (which would want a link to the image), but here is a breakdown of what I see:

  1. Virtual server boots, and I see the standard SeaBIOS screen.
  2. The Windows Server 2012 R2 image boots and the installer loads with the standard text "Loading Files..." and progress bar.
  3. The blue Windows logo (four panels) appears briefly and then the server reboots. (GOTO 1)

I have not timed the progression through the installer, but if that is critical information, I can do so. As I mentioned in my original post, we can use the same image to successfully install on Hyper-V, so it isn't an issue with the ISO file.

Thanks for your help!

Wondering if this was ever resolved. I'm seeing the same behavior on my 3.3 environment.
