Change RHEL 7 RC Server Edition to RHEL 7 Workstation?

Latest response

How can I change a RHEL7RC Server install into a RHEL7RC Workstation install?

I have tried disabling all the server repos--though "rhel-7-server-rpms" simply refuses to let me disable it.

I was successful in adding the workstation repo:

[root@virtue Desktop]# yum-config-manager --add-repo ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/rhel/rc/7/Workstation/x86_64/os/
Loaded plugins: langpacks, product-id
adding repo from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/rhel/rc/7/Workstation/x86_64/os/

[ftp.redhat.com_pub_redhat_rhel_rc_7_Workstation_x86_64_os_]
name=added from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/rhel/rc/7/Workstation/x86_64/os/
baseurl=ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/rhel/rc/7/Workstation/x86_64/os/
enabled=1

I would really rather change the install, instead of being forced to reinstall all over again.

Thanks in advance!

Responses

  1. Overwrite the product certificate
    Overwrite the .pem file in /etc/pki/product with the one (/repodata/productid) in workstation installation media.
  2. Replace the redhat-release package
    rpm -ivh redhat-release-workstation-7.1-1.el7.x86_64.rpm --force
    rpm -evh redhat-release-server-7.1-1.el7.x86_64
    You can download the package from customer portal or copy it from the installation media.

Will this same procedure also work for RHEL 6?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't tried this method, but if it would work, it would work on all RHEL releases (5, 6, and 7).

OK, just tested it out, and with a few package fixes, things worked out well on RHEL7. I went Desktop -> Worstation -> Desktop.
