How do you create a new tag and values in CloudForms?

Latest response

I've searched the UI and documentation all over and can't find how you go about creating a new tag with available values. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Hi Bill,

I am not sure if I understand what you try to do ("new tag with available values"). In general tags are "Descriptive terms defined by a CloudForms Management Engine user or the system used to categorize a resource."

This can be used e.g. for
- Scope for Provisioning
- Auto Approval
- Owner and Group Quotas

More details on tags can be found in the Lifecycle and Automation Guide

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply. After a few minutes with tech support, I learned the trick to creating new Categories for tagging. Here is the short set of steps:
1. Go to Configure -> Configuration
2. Go to the Settings accordion
3. Click on the top region node - this is where the My Company Categories feature is located.
4. Click on My Company Categories
5. Click on the top row to create the category.
6. After creating the category, you go to My Company Tags
7. Select your new category from the list.
8. You can now add entries for the category values
9. In order to register the new category, you must restart the appliance.

That's it. To edit category values, go to My Company Tags. Here you can delete, add and edit category values. No restart of the appliance is needed to modify the category values.

Hi Bill,

There's some documentation in the Settings and Operation Guide (Section 5.1.1.4. Tags):

https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/CloudForms/3.0/html/Management_Engine_5.2_Settings_And_Operations/chap-Configuration.html#sect-Regions

It's quite hard to find at the moment because the Settings and Ops Guide is quite large, but we're investigating ways make this content easier to find.

I use $evm.execute to create tags in 5.6.2. What I am now unable to find is how to DELETE those tags once they are no longer needed.

Use case is we create instance specific tags and we need to delete those tags when we delete the instance.

Where can I find this?
