Unnecessary Bumping of Discussions

Latest response

This has been ongoing for a while, but I want to raise it as a frustration with using the discussion section of the customer portal.

Many threads appear to be 'bumped' or updated behind the scenes which leads to old threads/discussions moving to the top of the discussion list and burying relevant, and at times unanswered discussions.

Can the discussion code be updated to only 'bump' the discussions if interaction happens from the client side eg. only when new posts are made to a discussion.

As it currently stands, users of the discussion board are left to weed through a mix of new and old posts looking for posts that are genuinely current and awaiting a response. This also impacts users trying to get answers to their questions as they are often buried by old content that has already been solved.

I believe others probably share my frustration and I think it may be impacting on the contributions from users donating their time to answer discussion questions.

True, I've seen this too...
Thanks for bringing it up Pixel

Hey PixelDrift. Thanks for raising this. I've had others contact me about it via email. This is definitely a problem, and it's caused by the way discussions are managed internally. Specifically, it's caused by modifying certain metadata associated with the discussions. For example, if a discussion wasn't tagged with a specific product, I'll often edit it to add the relevant metadata, which causes it to be bumped even when no new comment was added. Hopefully we can find a way to fix this on the platform side, but in the meantime I'm going to try to modify my approach to keep these bumps to an absolute minimum.
