  • RHEL 10 installation issues on Dell XPS 8500 desktop (24Gb ram)

    Posted on

I have a Dell XPS 8500 desktop with intel i5, 4 core cpu, and 24 GB RAM. I am having issues installing RHEL 10 downloaded on a USB. I got the RHEL10 from the developer program download. Here is what I have tried so far --

    a. Mint installs with no issues.
    b. Ubuntu 24 LTS installs but requires DD option to be chosen when etching the ISO through RUFUS.
    c. Installed RHEL 10 on bootable usb, using both the ISO and DD options in RUFUS. After restart and F12, when I select to boot through the usb, the installer fails. I explain the infinite loop it takes me in bullet (d) below.
    d. After F12, the installer loads and asks me to select "Install RHEL" or "Test & Install..." or "Troubleshooting". After I select any option, the screen goes dark for 5 seconds, then just the cursor blinks for 2-3 seconds and then cursor goes away and the screen goes blank for 3-4 seconds and the option menu comes back again. I tried to install in basics graphics mode, but no difference in results.
    e. No way of of this loop expect powering off the machine..

I really need to work in RHEL with Eclipse and JWS (Jboss Web Server) for my SW development.

As next steps--what do you recommend?
    a. Should I try RHEL9 ?
    b. go back to ubuntu, install podman on ubuntu and run RHEL 10 through podman?
    c. Go back to windows, enable WSL2 and install a RHEL 10 or 9 image inside WSL2 and do my dev work there?

thank you so much for your attention and help!
