Announcement: New location for Oracle Java SE packages

Latest response

Greetings all,

This is a notice for a change in where the Oracle Java SE packages are located on Red Hat Network.

Please take a look at the following Knowledgebase Solution, and feel free to post any questions or comments!

Is this channel not available to subscribe to via Red Hat Satellite?

Satellite customers should have access, but require a new Satellite certificate to gain the new channel/repo as with other newly created channels. Hope this helps!

Hi Andrius, we have a lot of disconnected Satellite servers (and I deal with two accounts). How will the release of these channels play out for those of us who download RHEL base and incremental channels manually and do not have a Satellite server facing the public network to Red Hat's "RHN Network"? Will we have to await the base channel change or will it somehow be included in an incremental update?

I would suspect it would have to hit a base channel first (isos we download, see my post below) and then we'd see it in the incrementals.

How does this play out for those using purely disconnected Satellite servers?

Thanks!

As things are, you should be good with next set of incremental channels.

Just download the next set of incrementals (in about a week from now),
import them to your Satellite and you should be all set.

Thanks Milan!

One question,

The current base channels for rhel5 and rhel6 are (as I type this today):
* RHEL 6 (x86_64) + EUS + AUS + RHN Proxy/Tools + Supplementary (Base 2013-11-24)
* RHEL 5 Client/Server (x86_64) + EUS + AMC + RHN Proxy/Tools + Supplementary (Base 2013-10-15)

The current Incremental channels (as I type this today) are:
* RHEL 5 Client/Server (x86_64) + EUS + AMC + RHN Proxy/Tools + Supplementary (Incremental 2013-10-15:2014-02-23)
* RHEL 6 (x86_64) + EUS + AUS + RHN Proxy/Tools + Supplementary (Incremental 2013-11-24:2014-03-02)

Question: Will these rpms in the cited solution id 732883 be included in the next issue of base channels or will they be added to the incremental channels? Since the incremental channels are to be ingested after the initial ingest of the base channels, how will this play out?
Note: We download the isos manually as they are issued every three weeks and import them into our "disconnected" satellite servers.

Thanks/Regards,
Rem

Today, I added the above mentioned thirdparty channels to the list
of channels to be included in channel dumps isos.

These channels and their content should be available in next set of
incremental dumps. These should be made available for download
at the beginning of next week (Sunday Mar-9 or Monday Mar-10).

Thanks Milan, also interested in what James Radtke mentioned below (good points)

Can others post up what your migration strategy is once you move your hosts?
* Import new channels
* create a clone
I'm worried this will be a bit messy. Fortunately I just created a bunch of Clone channels and I wasn't "locked" on the dates we selected. I am hoping the errata/etc.. will retain the same dates as the current dates.

Should be interesting ;-)

Hi Andrius,

I am still unable to convince support that I would allowed a new certificate, they tell me to buy the new channels. Only I do not know to which add-on they would belong.

Kind regards,

Jan Gerrit Kootstra

Wow - I had forgotten that this was happening.... when I look at my RHN sub (not my Satellite) I still find:
java-1.7.0-oracle-1.7.0.51-1jpp.1.el6_5:1.x86_64 RHEL Server Supplementary (v. 6 64-bit x86_64)

I wonder if they are going to completely pull JRE out of Supplementary and put ALL versions in the new 3rd-party channel, or if there will be a cut-off.

I don't see any reference (yet) to rhel-x86_64-server-6-thirdparty-oracle-java

It would seem that this person has been able to use the new 3rd-party channel

Hi Jan, just sent you a reply in the support case - but unfortunately not all SKUs will be mapped to the new channel due to various legal reasons. :-(

AFAIK we are still working on ensuring all the right SKUs have been mapped to the new channel - we missed quite a few initially, and until we get an OK from QA, we will be leaving the packages in both channels. Stay tuned...
