Hi Yusuf, have you checked out the information page at http://www.redhat.com/products/enterprise-linux-add-ons/smart-management/ ?

Yes im already check that link

so i dont need to buy smart management add on for rhel connected to hosted RHN right? also i dont need to buy smart management add on if i want connect to my private RHN (i dont need feature on smart management)?

Thnks

Hi Yusuf,

Yes, To register RHEL system to RHN Classic(Hosted) you do not need Smart Management entitlement (its optional). Every RHEL subscription provides Update entitlement which can be used to register system on RHN Hosted.

But if you want to register any system to Red Hat Satellite then it is mandatory to have Management entitlement for that system. Without having Management entitlement we can not register system to Satellite.

Thnks for your information, i appreciate

Hi,

if i have 4 RHEL VDC hosting 12 RHEL instance, is it possible to use 12 x Smart Management Add-ons instead of 4 x Smart Management Add-ons unlimited? so the idea to have Smart Management Add ons for every RHEL instance?

I got Smart Mgmt last summer. It allows you to push rhn updates from the RHN website for any number of servers. If you have 20+ servers to update, it can be done on a schedule from the website.

You need to have the rhnsd service running on the servers. They check-in to see if there are any updates. Works well for me.

You buy one Smart Mgmt addon for your whole datacenter. It is not sold per server.

Please take a look at https://www.redhat.com/apps/store/add-ons/. Smart Management is sold per socket pair or based on hypervisors which cover their guests. One subcription does not cover the data center.

I am planning to deploy only RHEL 7.2 servers in my environment that interact with Satellite 6. If I want to register and yum update update all future servers, would I need RED HAT ENTERPRISE LINUX SMART MANAGEMENT ADD-ON for each new server?

As per KB: https://access.redhat.com/articles/1988363

In Satellite 6, the number of RHEL subscriptions is used to determine how many systems can be managed by Satellite. The customer is contractually required to maintain a Smart Management subscription for every RHEL subscription that they wish to manage with Satellite. That remains the same as it has been with previous versions of Satellite.
