  • xfs_repair: showing "clearing reflink flag" messages in single user mode the first time

    Posted on

I have noticed that when booting into single user mode after a fresh installation of RedHat Entperprise Linux 8.10, that running xfs_repair results in a lot of messages that look like :-

    ...
clearing reflink flag on inode 50975400
clearing reflink flag on inode 50975401
clearing reflink flag on inode 50975406
    ..

    to replicate -

install RHEL 8.10 (or any minor release)
reboot and edit the grub line (e) and add rd.break to the end of the linux line then ctrl-x to boot into single user mode
    umount /sysroot
    xfs_repair /dev/mapper/rhel-root

I did find this article which talks about reducing the verbose messaging but I cant find any reference to the behaviour or 'fix' as it does not appear in RHEL 9 (or any OS based on RHEL 9)

    https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/xfs/patch/156633314915.1215978.1191691824699956900.stgit@magnolia/#22853369

Does anyone have any more information about this behaviour please?

    Regards

    Rod
