  • Security Fixes within Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extended Life Cycle Support (ELS)

    Posted on

    Hi,

we would like to understand, whether RHEL 7.9 keeps on receiving security fixes after 30th of June 2024 (end of maintenance support phase). After that date Extended Life Cycle Support (ELS) becomes available until 30th of June 20208. These dates are taken from:

    https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata/?extIdCarryOver=true&sc_cid=701f2000001OH7EAAW#Life_Cycle_Dates

However, there seem to be contradictory statements on whether the ELS provides security bug fixes. On the same page, in the table shown in the below link it is stated that

"Extended Life Cycle Support (ELS) Add-On" does include "Asynchronous Security Errata (RHSA)"

    https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata/?extIdCarryOver=true&sc_cid=701f2000001OH7EAAW#Details

However, on other pages it is stated that:

"Extended Life Phase. During the Extended Life Phase, a Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription provides continued access to previously released content on the Red Hat Customer Portal, as well as other content such as documentation and the Red Hat knowledgebase. By default no bug fixes, security fixes, hardware enablement, or root-cause analysis is available during this phase."

Hence, I wonder whether for RHEL 7.9 security updates are received until 2024 or 2028.

    Thanks
