  • Ethernet card not "active" or usable

    Posted on

    Dear Community,

I am new to RHEL 8 and Linux in general, so I thank you for your patience in advance.

    My problem is as follows:
    - I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 which has a ethernet card as many laptops do
    - I installed RHEL 8.6 and everything works fine up to the ethernet card. It seems to be not there for RHEL. When I type "ip link" there appears the following text:

1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
        link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: wlp0s29f7u1: mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP mode DORMANT group default qlen 1000
        link/ether 70:62:b8:99:c4:fc brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: virbr0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
        link/ether 3a:25:c0:10:81:09 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

My wife gave me the hint that there might be a driver missing. So I am not sure what to do, to be honest.

I am thankful for every hint!

    Cheers,
    Maik
