  • mgag200 kernel module fails RHEL 8

    Posted on

I am running on a Dell PowerEdge R540 server that comes as standard with an embedded Matrox G200eW3 graphics card. When X starts up i get these messages:

MESA-LOADER: failed to open mgag200: /usr/lib64/dri/mgag200_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

There is no such file in /usr/lib64/dri and I can not find any RHEL package that provides it. As a result X falls back to the VESA driver which does not provide a high enough resolution for my server's monitor.

The PowerEdge R540 is a certified system for RHEL 8 so should work out of the box, which is why we chose this OS. What am i doing wrong?
