Sharing a KVM vnc display

Latest response

Is there any way to share a KVM display between two clients, much like connecting to a vncserver with -Shared on the client?

Hi Leon, sorry for any delay in answering this.  I am looking into this.  I have a couple of ideas, and will flesh them out and update you shortly.

Hi Leon,

In order for me to give you the best answer I can, could you please provide some specifics?

1) what version is the host OS

2) what version of KVM do you have installed?

My understanding is you want to have multiple clients to connect to the same virtual machine at the same time, please correct me if I am incorrect.

Thanks again,

Hi Leon, in digging around, it appears this functionality is available with spice version > 0.10.

However, the latest version in Red Hat Enterprise 6 is spice 0.8.3 at this time.

I found this article, which explains the added functionality:

http://spice-space.org/page/Features/MultipleClients

This functionality is experimental, and is accomplished by exporting an environment variable:

export SPICE_DEBUG_ALLOW_MC=1

Thank you,

Hi Leon, after thinking about this, and some internal discussion, I am going to submit an RFE (Request for Enhancement) for this functionality to be added/backported as applicable.

Thank you very much for bringing this to us for discussion.  I will let you know how the RFE progresses.

Cheers!

Jim

Hi Jim, Many thanks and apologies for the one-sidedness of the conversation. I am currently using RHEL 6.3, I'm also doing a bit of testing with the Fedora 18 Beta which has spice client 0.12

Hi Leon,

No apologies needed, I appreciate you bringing this conversation to us.  I can see where this would assist in several scenarios and is a great opportunity to get an enhancement in.

Thanks again!
