virtio-scsi and RHEL 7
Hi! I am a software engineer at Red Hat, and the main author of virtio-scsi, the next generation storage interface for KVM. virtio-scsi is included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 as technology preview, and will be fully supported (except for Windows drivers) starting from 6.4. We just posted a whitepaper on virtio-scsi on redhat.com's Resource Library.
Please reply to this discussion with any questions you may have on virtio-scsi and---of course---ideas about it for RHEL7. I'll do my best to reply on November 14th and 15th!
Regards,
Paolo Bonzini

Would love to see development of drivers for Solaris10 -
We have a real need to have Legacy Solaris10 systems fully supported in RHEL7/KVM.

I'd like to see the virt-manager interface allow us to reorder the drives. Right now it can be done in the gui but you have to delete each drive and then add them again. For windows this sucks. Especially for which drive is to be booted.

Thanks Ryan, yes, I love dumpxml and how the system makes it SOOOOoooooo easy to back configs up via it's ideal engineering (as far as I see :).
It's the gui my employee and I hope to use when we're not automating things that has a few short falls (ALL can be worked around, but we're polishing here :).
Next I'll see if I can find the delayed boot option request. If it's missing I'll put in a request for that one!

Just as an update to this. I worked recently to coordinate a document change within Openstack and Ceph teams to document virtio-scsi as the default standard for Openstack. There are many advantages to virtio-scsi in Openstack with Ceph including performance and the trimming capability. Hopefully soon to be available in the RHOSP documentation. Right now, it is an internal RFE. The Ceph 125 class already recommends it for Openstack but the Openstack documentation had not picked it up.
