Network requirements for VM migration

Latest response

I am trying to setup a RHEV3 system with 4 HP DL380 G7 servers ( 2 for manager and 2 for hypervisor ) connected to a iscsi  RAID.  Each RHEV-H server comes with four 1g nics.  I plan to use 2 bonded ( active/standby ) networks,  one for iscsi-storage and another for data traffic.  On the traffic bond network, I also plan to have dedicated VLANs for  management and  traffic. One thing i didn't find more detail is how VM migration is handled.

Is there any pointers on how much bandwidth is needed for VM migration?   Also when a VM is migrated what is the role of the RHEV-M in the migration. Does the migration traffic go peer to peer or gets proxied via RHEV-M?

thanks

VM migration will happen via the management network at this time. A future version may include a feature to select a network of your choice for vm migration, but not possible at this time.

VM migration is currently capped at 30mbps and 5 concurrent outgoing migrations.

It goes peer to peer.

Hi Guru,

In RHEV-M 4.0 What is the VM migration capped rate and concurrent outgoing migrations.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Sadique, where can i found the details about the rhev's network settings?

Hi César, under 'Clusters' -> 'Logical Networks' tab, you can see each network and the role assigned (eg Management, Display, Migration, Storage). If you click on 'Hosts' -> 'Network Interfaces', you can see details about specific nics on each host.
