[Hardware Error]: No human readable MCE decoding support on this CPU type

Latest response

Hello,
I've getting recurrent messages as follows;
[Hardware Error]: No human readable MCE decoding support on this CPU type.
[Hardware Error]: Run the message through 'mcelog --ascii' to decode.
[Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged

The system is running RHEL 6.1 , kernel `2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue May 10 15:42:40 EDT 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux`

What does this mean?

Is it a bug as indicated in http://mcelog.org/faq.html#13 ?

Hello, could someone help to get Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation 5.3 ISO files?

Thanks.

ISO images are available in the customer portal under downloads.

Select RHEL 5 and then older releases

example RHEL 5.3 x86_64

Which hardware platform are you running on?

Would you please provide us with the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo?

It's Dual Six-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650  @ 2.67GH with HT.

Bug 621669 - mcelog: Unknown Intel CPU type for Xeon X5650

It looks like there's an mcelog bug on Bugzilla for the X5650, but on RHEL5. I don't see a "fix", and I don't see a RHEL6-specific ticket for it either. Also, the link to the Errata listed in the ticket does not appear to be valid either.

To answer your question--it appears to be a bug.

Amr,

You are right. Looks like you are hitting following bug.

http://www.mcelog.org/faq.html#13

It is addressed in following bugzilla.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621669

and fixed in kernel-2.6.32-220.

Updating to the above kernel should fix the issue.
