Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters
How should I register this subscription (RH00002)? Physical host will be running ESXi and hosting RHEL VM-s. I don't really want to run any non VMware software on the physical hosts.
We can't use SAM because of our network security policies.

Does this even work for you? I've configured virt-who to registered the ESX hosts but none of the VM's are able to get any updates. To clarify, the Redhat Linux VM's can register via subscription-manager but do NOT get updates. To me its broken out of the "box" and this is after doing a default install.
If I register the VMs using rhn classic it works fine, subscription-manager is broken.
Ok, good to know, I thought I was crazy. I still have a ticket open with Redhat but it's been over a month now.
Hello all.
Please find the latest updated article for a good understanding on how to use virtual datacenter subscriptions

I have the same issue. I have to use SAM and can register my VMs to it. Part of what I needed to do was get a manifest from Redhat Customer Portal. This basically provides me with a file of Subscriptions. Thing is this manifest is ONLY for Hypervisor Datacenter Licenses...
I found the following article that kind of explains things
https://access.redhat.com/site/solutions/484573
After going through I found I don't have Redhat licenses I have Datacenter Hypervisor licenses. This seems to prevent my VMs from getting updates even though I can use it to register an unlimited number of Redhat VMs
Basically the the Datacenter License we get is not configured properly. It does not add any Red Hat products to your subscription and so any VMs you register against it are not seen as being entitled to updates
