Items in /var/os/packages safe to delete?

Latest response

I'm running out of space on a /var partition and it's mainly filled by the /var/os/packages directory. What is this? Is it all previously installed packages? Can I delete all the .rpm's in here? Thanks

As far as I know "/var/os/packages" is not RHEL default dir for storing RPMs.
It's user or application created. Do you have by any chance "qi-bench" installed ?

Hi Stefan, no we definitely are not using qi-bench. These are mainly just used as MySql servers... Funny because I have checked some of our other servers and they don't all have it. So it definitely seems to be application created, I just have no idea which application.

I take that back, the /var/os directory is definitely created by RHEL.

This is the other contents of '/var/os':

[root@mysqlmaster1 os]# ls /var/os
EFI media.repo RELEASE-NOTES-es-ES.html RELEASE-NOTES-ko-KR.html RELEASE-NOTES-si-LK.html RPM-GPG-KEY-redhat-beta
EULA Packages RELEASE-NOTES-fr-FR.html RELEASE-NOTES-ml-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-ta-IN.html RPM-GPG-KEY-redhat-release
GPL README RELEASE-NOTES-gu-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-mr-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-te-IN.html ScalableFileSystem
HighAvailability RELEASE-NOTES-as-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-hi-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-or-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-zh-CN.html Server
images RELEASE-NOTES-bn-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-it-IT.html RELEASE-NOTES-pa-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-zh-TW.html TRANS.TBL
isolinux RELEASE-NOTES-de-DE.html RELEASE-NOTES-ja-JP.html RELEASE-NOTES-pt-BR.html repodata
LoadBalancer RELEASE-NOTES-en-US.html RELEASE-NOTES-kn-IN.html RELEASE-NOTES-ru-RU.html ResilientStorage

Isn't this the content of the RHEL ISO which you might have copied manually? What is the size of this directory? What does "ls -lR /var/os" says?
