Patching via Satellite 6.6. utilizing client polling not Satellite server pushing.
Hello All,
I'm in the process of testing satellite 6.6. We will be migrating from a 5.8 instances.
Currently when trying to "schedule remote job" it seems all job categories here including Katello are utilizing a server push to client style activity via SSH or other means. This isn't really practical for my environment to have unsolicited requests going to my client servers.
What's odd though is I can successfully run a katello job if I go to Hosts > All Hosts > click on the host name > click Content tab > then go to the errata or packages tab and apply via katello agent. Doing it this way appears to utilize a client polling technology and it waits for my client machine to check in with satellite via qpid and process the task which is the most ideal solution because satellite is not actually pushing anything to the client.
Is there a way to just submit a job of any sort to the qpid queue to be picked up by the client. furthermore, can this be scheduled? How come using katello from a schedule remote job pushes whereas using katello directly from the content tab of a host is a poll style activity?
Thanks in advance.
