Running back-level qlogic driver on newer distro ?
Hi,
Is there a way to run in-distro qlogic driver (FC) for RHEL 6.2 onto RHEL 6.3 ?
Based on RHEL 6.2 release notes, the in-distro qlogic driver is ---> 8.03.07.05.06.2-k
So, is there a way to run it on RHEL 6.3 (x86-64) ?
Will appreciate the feedback.
Thanks,
Dharmesh.

We package the drivers together with the kernel, so if you need to downgrade the driver for some reason, you can always boot into the previous kernel.
Running an older (eg: 6.2) kernel with newer (eg: 6.3) packages isn't something we test for, but it should work.
You may run into difficulties with userspace 6.3 components expecting kernel features which were not present in the 6.2 kernel. This would only affect you if you were using a feature introduced between 6.2 and 6.3. The feature additions are fully documented in the Release Notes and Technical Notes. If you stay away from any new features between these two versions you should be fine.
If you need a particular driver version, you may also choose to run a third-party driver. However, third-party software is not covered by our support. If you encountered an issue with a driver from elsewhere, we'd ask you to reproduce the issue with the supported driver, or to contact the driver supplier for support. Of course, the rest of the system will remain fully supported.
Is there any particular reason you wish to run the old driver? If there is a flaw or regression with the new driver, we'd like to know about this so we can fix it.
