IPv6 DHCP -- DUID

I am working on a way to automate IPv6 address reservations. However, in order to do this, we first need a DUID for a particular interface. It seems that a DUID will only be generated when the system is actually configured for for DHCP and receives an address. I would like to be able to generate the DUID without enabling DHCP and using that DUID to create my reservation. Can this be done?
