Change KVM's PXE boot loader?

Latest response

Hello,

I'm having trouble performing PXE installs of Windows 10 in KVM from a 2016 WDS server. I'm able to PXE install Windows 10 on a multitude of other platforms (VMWare Workstation, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, and Bare Metal). I believe I'm experiencing a compatability issue between KVM's iPXE v1.0.0+ network boot loader and my WDS. Is there a way to use a different PXE boot loader in KVM?

Thanks,

Rob

Hello,

After many hours of trouble-shooting, I finally came up with a work-around that allowed an unattended iPXE boot/install of Windows 10 within the KVM VM. I had to change the (DHCP Server Option 67) “Bootfile Name” on the WDS from this:

C:\RemoteInstall\boot\x86\wdsnbp.com

to this:

boot\x86\wdsnbp.com

I hope this is helpful for someone else (pay if forward).

Thanks,

Rob
