RHEL 6, logout message

Latest response

I need to have RHEL 6 display a logout message to all my users. RHEL 7 does this automatically. I have not had any luck researching this on line up to this point.

Anyone have experience with this?

Hi Samantha,

If this is for a single user you may add required message to ~./bash_logout file.. which would gets executed when this user initiates logout... something like below:

wall "$USER has logged out from $(tty) on $(date)....."

So, this message would get displayed when particular user do a logout, and messages gets displayed on users terminals. I hope this helps.

Also, these session details gets displayed by default in '/var/log/secure' file.
