Regarding Exam Preparation And Satellite 6 related information
Hi,
I just want to know few things as I just started to prepare for the Satellite 6 examination now.
If I can learn the Lab-Exercise given in the end of every chapter will I be able to crack the exam or need to work on some specific topics.
Also in the environment we are with Satellite 5 only till next year.
So Is there any way we can present the satellite 6 to use from now.
Like some extra feature we can present to our company clients.
Thanks,
Ashish Joshi

Hi Ashish, not to be master of the obvious, but it kinda depends on each person. One person might have extensive Satellite experience, but maybe one portion of the material they've never covered. Another person might have limited experience with some aspects of Satellite but not the majority of topics.
Another person might have been using satellite but may not be familiar enough to accomplish all the goals without any references. High proficiency with the labs for any given course will certainly help, but it will probably differ from person to person whether or not they need the background information at least as an anchor for whatever it is they are doing.
For myself, some of the tests I've taken, the videos were quite helpful, and remembered tips from the instructor, and that was helpful. It's kinda hard to make an iron-clad statement that would work for each individual.
Are you familiar with the material presented by the instructors in the videos and the printed (web printed, or pdf files) that are part of the course? Are you able to go through the labs with no references in a "good amount of time"?
Your last question, I surmise you are perhaps saying you are on Satellite 5 and wish to migrate to satellite 6 at some time. One method Red Hat discussed in previous Red Hat Summits was they would (at one time) allow a customer to stand up a satellite 6 server along with their satellite 5 for the purpose of draining the clients from the old satellite to the new satellite. I'd recommend contacting your customer support on that, and your sales person to let them know your intent so if necessary they can accommodate you with any necessary temporary entitlements, if necessary. When we migrated (a while ago), we stood up the new Satellite 6 server, drained the systems from the old satellite to the new satellite, then repurposed the old satellite 5 server for something else.

Hello Ashish,
Satellite 6 is significantly different than Satellite 5. And Satellite 6.2 and 6.3 is starkly different than satellite 6.1.
The release notes on Satellite 6 might be a good primer for you to begin to find some answers, while lengthy and reads like a plumbing manual, it's useful. (see the links at the bottom of this post too)
I can tell you that instead of making multiple channels, Satellite 6 uses a database with "content views" which is just a "view" similar to what you'd expect in a database. So instead of publishing multiple channels you can create a tailored "view" of a given library for let's say different segments of your network, such as test, development, production.
What you've known in satellite 5 will be starkly different in satellite 6. Here's some links that show major differences:
- Transition guide from Satellite 5 to 6
- Comparing Satellite 5 to 6
- FAQ Frequently Asked Questions for transitioning from Satellite 5 to 6, This is useful to answer some of the necessary topics in your last question from your original post.
- There are some obvious commonalities such as building rpms that are reasonably consistent in satellite 5 to 6.
- I highly recommend you watch this video from the 2018 Red Hat Summit regarding Satellite 6 as it will certainly answer many of your questions directly.
