Try to update RHEL 6.5 release to 6.10

Latest response

Hi all,

i'm using a RHEL 6.5 vm server.
I would like to update it to 6.10 version.
My server is correctly subscribed.
After a big "sudo yum update -y" (about 400 Mo) & reboot, i found 2 "problems" :
- /etc/redhat-release is still with "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.5 (Santiago)"
- on redHat customer's portal, my server is displayed with : 45 security failures & 12 bugs. How can i update my server with thoses patchs ?

Moreover :
$ uname -a
Linux vulcain 2.6.32-696.3.2.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Jun 7 11:51:39 EDT 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Last week, i've performed same steps to update another server, and after a reboot, it was successfully update to 6.10 release.

Best regards

I got it ! In my "/etc/yum.conf" file there was an "exclude=kernel* redhat-release*" I've just removed this line, performed a "sudo yum clean all" & "sudo yum update -y". Now my redhat-release file is correctly updated to "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.10". I think that RedHat portal will be updated soon with my server's erratas.

Best regards

Thank you for sharing the solution.

Check if grub is updated, as per the release notes of RHEL6.10 it is documented saying that this is a know issue and manually need to be updated https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/6/html/6.10_release_notes/known_issues_installation_and_booting
