LibreOffice Versions on Rhel 7.5

Latest response

My new Rhel 7.5 Desktop comes with LibreOffice 5.3, but currently the latest version of LibreOffice is 6.0.5. So i had to do a manual download to install the latest version. Why does Redhat not flag it an update, so that the system will install it when i run an update on my machine,

Hi Promise,

When a new RHEL edition gets released, it ships with and sticks to the stable LibreOffice version being current at that time.
It also meets the recommendation which is provided by the LibreOffice team on their official LibreOffice Download website.
"If you deploy LibreOffice in an enterprise or corporate environment or are a conservative user, please choose this version."

Users who want a more current edition of LibreOffice can download the .rpm file and install it manually - right as you did.
LibreOffice says about this version : "If you're a technology enthusiast, early adopter or power user, this version is for you."
But LibreOffice is not the only app where you don't have the latest version - this is valid for many other applications too. :)

Let me add something else, Promise ... RHEL mainly aims at enterprises who need a "rock stable" system. Users who prefer to
have the "latest and greatest" software available have the choice to use fedora workstation, the "lab" and upstream project. :)

Christian
