Why SpamAssassin still 3.3.1 in redhat 6

Hi,

i want to update our spamassassin version on Redhat EL6. But spamassasin is now version 3.4.1 .

İ found this package
https://centos.pkgs.org/6/psychotic-ninja-plus-x86_64/spamassassin-3.4.0-13.el6.x86_64.rpm.html

is it posssible update from sA from 3.3.1 to 3.4.0 with

yum update ./spamassassin 3.4.0-13.el6x86_64.rpm

command ?

Hi Deniz,

spamassassin-3.4.0 is available from the Red Hat repositories. You can download the package by using the Red Hat Package Browser and try to install it manually. I don't know if you'll face dependency issues ... it might be possible. However, I recommend to install the latest edition of RHEL, which currently is version 7.5 and install spamassassin-3.4.0 there. :)

Hello Deniz,

Most packages are not rebased within a major release. For RHEL 6, Red Hat shipped spamassassin-3.3.1. As Christian mentioned, spamassassin-3.4.0 is available for RHEL 7. It was not tested by Red Hat with RHEL 6.

If you need spamassassin-3.4.0 (or later), your choices are:

  • Upgrade to RHEL-7 (which is fully supported with spamassassin-3.4.0)
  • Obtain and install a newer version of spamassassin on your RHEL-6 system, but that version of spamassassin will not be supported by Red Hat.
