How to move OS from RAID 0 to RAID 1

Latest response

Hi,

Currently, Server have OS on RAID 0. But i want to move OS data to RAID 1 from RAID 0. Could you please provide the detailed steps for this migration.

Current configuration.

  logicaldrive 1 (558.7 GB, RAID 0, OK)

  physicaldrive 1I:2:1 (port 1I:box 2:bay 1, SAS, 300 GB, OK)
  physicaldrive 1I:2:2 (port 1I:box 2:bay 2, SAS, 300 GB, OK)

Hi Jagadeesh.

It seems from the part where you say in your original post above "localdrive 1 (558.7 GB, RAID 0K)" you've got two disks that somehow make one disk that together makes roughly 600GB disk. It looks like you want to instead have a mirror raid where you'll have something under 300G (because of creating the partition & formatting). XFS itself can not be resized smaller.

Is there any way you can instead recreate the system itself using a kickstart? It might be easier to recreate the system.

Yes, as RJ said, the logical drive looks to be created by disk controller.

If the server is already installed/setup and up with logical drive as RAID0 then you could not easily change it from RAID 0 to RAID1, instead you would need to break the RAID setup and re-create RAID 1 with 2 logical drives. Most of the servers would provide an option to access controller setup utility during boot for such activities. This is a dangerous process which would leave the system in-operable, however, if there is not much risk in re-installing OS and other apps then you may go for it. It is always better to contact your server manufacturer for further help.

Hi Jagadeesh,

My two cents : Better create a new RAID setup and reinstall the system. Backup your data before and restore it back afterwards. :)

Great point Christian

Thanks, RJ ! :)
