RHEL 7 support of Intel Kaby Lake processor

Latest response

All:
I need to install RHEL 7.x on Intel Kaby Lake Xeon E3-1505L processor. Do you know if there is support for this processor on RHEL 7.4? If not, will there be support upcoming on a subsequent release to 7.4?

Hi Todd,

Excerpt from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 Release Notes (Chapter 2. Architectures) :

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 is available as a single kit on the following architectures:
64-bit AMD
64-bit Intel
IBM POWER7+ and POWER8 (big endian)
IBM POWER8 (little endian)
IBM z Systems

As per Intel Xeon E3-1505L Product Specifications - the CPU should be supported. :)

Christian

When I try to load RHEL 7.4 from DVD to this system, I get the following:

[ ... ] Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception [ ... ] Kernel offset: disabled

Is there something I can do to get beyond this point? Presently, Fedora 25 is loaded and works, but we want to move to RHEL 7.x

Hi Todd,

When you are able to run fedora, then RHEL 7 will definitely work as well. Please check whether either the ISO image you are using or the DVD is damaged. If the checksum of the ISO file is correct try to install RHEL from an USB drive. If that also fails, try to boot the installation medium with the parameter nomodeset, press the E key before booting and add the parameter at the end of the line beginning with linux, then press Ctrl + X to boot into 'install process'. :)

Regards,
Christian
