HA cluster with GFS2 and Pacemaker
Hi there,
I am wondering - why we need to configure fencing/stonith when building a HA cluster with GFS2 and shared storage?
It does not seem to be necessary to me, but yet it does not work when not configured.
Thanks,
Ondrej

Yes, that is right. The main duty of fenced is to cut off the failed node from the cluster to maintain data integrity. Without fencing (hard/soft fence) in-place, as Enrique told when there is a network split where in there would separate set of nodes acting and trying to win the race which in turns damage shared pool of data.
When you say it is not necessary, how is the cluster setup configured? How could you achieve data integrity without fencing in place? What release of RHEL is the cluster configured? You may have to provide more details for the community to help you...
