Untrusted application launcher

Latest response

ive just downloaded and installed a brand new RHEL 7.4 from the red hat portal.
I tried to create an icon on the desktop and it worked with no issues.
ive then registered to the default red hat server Chanel and update the os to the latest available from red hat.

Since then i've started to see that any icon i create on my desktop does not have its icon image and when i click it it prompt with a message "Untrsuted application launcher" (see image attached)
only when clicking "Trust and Launch" it then change the icon to have its image and from that point i no longer prompt for that icon only.
i need to do this for each icon i create.

  • i've tried to change permission but it didn't helped.
  • the ISO file is last modified on the 18.01.2018 and on a clean install i do not have this issue. only after i updating and installing all patches from the default Chanel it then start to behave like this.

Can someone explain to me why is this happening?

It seems that this "Untrusted application launcher" message and missing icons picture are due to some last security updates. This issues is a security breach describe in RHSA-2018:0223 - Security Advisory and patched by cve-2017-14604 This is also might be implemented for other distributions.

copying any icon to the desktop will be presented with this message, even something from within the OS that come will the OS.
