Inconvenient redirect after relogin

Latest response

Hi!

After some time of inactivity ROLE site requires a relogin. That's fine.
But it's not returning me to the same place where I've been before, and I should search that course and open it again.

Is that possible to fix?

Alexander,

When the platform authentication expires, you'll be required to re-login. Upon re-login, it will drop you on the main page for the platform. However, when you rejoin a class, it should place you on the last page visited in that class.

Is that the behavior you are observing? If not, what is happening? If that is the behavior you currently have, what is the workflow you want to have happen?

The problem is that I had to search the course from a big list. It is a 5 pages currently. It is counterproductive. Why not to return back to the page where user was before? It is a typical UX on many other sites.

Ah, I understand the issue now. I don't think we'll get to the point where the re-authentication automatically redirects you to the last place you were. I'll leave the vagueries of the SSO solution to the side, but suffice it to say, that's likely the ultimate culprit and one that I can't change.

That said, we're looking at a variety of UI improvements over the next year that should make this easier. In the mean time, you'll notice that above the cataog, on the right-side, there's a "Narrow" text field. If you put the course ID or some of the keywords from it's title in this box, it'll narrow the catalog to match those courses that contain that ID or keywords. That should make things much more searchable.

It's just a feature request... However I can see that other RedHat sites, using SSO (saml.redhat.com), are redirecting back without any problems. For example mojo.redhat.com.

I think you're conflating the internal SSO and customer facing one. rol.redhat.com uses the customer facing SSO.

I meant to write this issue long time ago . I feel the pain. Once it expires you have to re-login and then you can not go back, you have to relaunch new ROL page and search your course and start from there. Why don't they just at least put a link of ROL on main login page.
