subscription-manager for RHEL < 5.7
Hello,
I have two RHEL 5.3 servers. Searching in the documentation I found that subscription-manager can be installed only for RHEL > 5.7, but If I do "yum install subscription-manager" on my 5.3, it finds the package. Can I install it? I am asking this because legacy RHN is dismissed now, as far as I understood.

Sure you can install it, but if it has any dependencies that are not yet installed on your system, those will come from whatever release level the package repository you're using has available. So after that, your system won't necessarily be "pure 5.3" any more, but instead "5.3 with some 5.7 or even 5.11 bits thrown in as needed."
The subscription-manager RPM has a few dependencies with version requirements specified, but they seem to concern mainly python-rhsm (which seems to be a component of subscription-manager anyway) and yum, which must be version 3.2.19-15 or greater. So, the result would be something like "a 5.3 system with a 5.7+ subscription-manager and yum". Will this matter to your applications? Probably not, unless your applications do something fairly involved with yum.
