Why VM down when I down the Redhat Manager

Latest response

I have two hosts and a Redhat manager. Radhat manager installs in a physical system. I create a VM in host 1. Every thing is working fine when Redhat manager and host both are alive. But when I shut down Redhat manager, VM also down that time both the host alive.

My question is why VM down when I down the manager. As per VMware if vcenter down that is not affected to any VM if the host is up. But in RedHat scenario that's not work. It is Redhat features or some thing needs to configure.

Hello Joy, please explain what you mean by "Redhat manager". I wonder do you mean "Virtual Machine Manager" provided by the libvirt package (http://virt-manager.org/)? Or maybe you mean Red Hat Virtualization (formerly Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization)?

I mean Red Hat Virtualization manager.

Hello Joy, could you please be more specific about your setup?

You indicated that you have 2 hosts AND a RHV manager installed on a physical machine. Does this mean you have 3 physical machines or that the RHV manager is installed on one of the hosts? Which version of RHV are you using? Did you deploy RHEL hosts or RHV hosts? How did you shutdown the RHV manager? Did you stop ovirt-engine or halt the physical machine running the RHV manager?

Stopping ovirt-engine on the RHV manager should keep the VM's running, you are only no longer able to interact (create, start, stop, remove) with them.
