Auto reset of vncpasswd for all users

Posted on

Hi All,
i configured an vncserver on my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.8.
The service is running and everyone can log in. This works as expected.

Before I gave every user an default password by switching from root to the respective user (su ) and execute the vncpasswd.
After doing this I saw an "passwd" file with an encrypted password in every home path (home//.vnc).

With this user they were able to login. Then they opened an terminal session and changed the password again with "vncpasswd" so that every user has his own password. I can see from the timestamp of this "passwd" file that it was really changed.

Now the problem. They can use this new password a few times but after a while and / or several new connections they have to use the initial password again like there was an auto reset of the passwords BUT the timestemp of the passwd file was not changed again.

Has anyone similar experiences or an idea what can be the reason for this behaviour?

Second issue: When we connect to the server everything is working fine. When we just close the VNC window and open the VNC connection again it is working fine.

But when we use the "logout" from the redhat system we getting an blank background screen from redhat without a chance to reconnect unless we restart the vncserver. Is this "as designed"?

regards
