RHN to RHSM for existing RHEL 6 Servers

Latest response

We are not ready for Satellite 6 yet and currently we are getting OS updates from RHN for our RHEL 6 servers. However, RHN is being shutdown in July. So, how can we migrate existing RHEL 6 servers to RHSM and start getting the same updates from RHSM instead of RHN? We are not going to migrate to Satellite 6 yet.

Responses

Satellite 5.8 was released last week. Your RHEL 6 servers registered to Satellite will continue to use RHN Classic tools (e.g. rhn-register). The Satellite server will connected to Red Hat via subscription-manager.

cdn-sync is a key feature in 5.8 which enables synchronization of channel-content from Red Hat CDN instead of RHN

Servers not registered with Satellite. See this KB on How to migrate a Red Hat Enterprise Linux System from RHN Classic to RHSM
