Download link for Red Hat Big Endian 6.8 for PowerPC

Latest response

Not sure why I cannot see this in the downloads. Is there a special place for PPC downloads?

As per this article, there is no big endian version of RHEL available for Itanium processors;https://access.redhat.com/articles/8001

That KB looks to be not updated recently. Could someone from Red Hat verify that ?

As per the Architecures section of the Release Notes, RHEL 7 is available for POWER7+ BE and POWER8 BE, either as KVM guest on RHV for Power, or PowerVM.

RHEL 6 was only ever available for POWER BE, there is no such thing as RHEL 6 for POWER LE.

Itanium (aka Intel 64) is different again but doesn't seem to be what Matthew is after.

On the download page, you have to select Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Power, big endian as the product name.

This link should get you there:

https://access.redhat.com/downloads/content/74/ver=/rhel---7/7.3/ppc64/product-software

If you don't have access to download from that link, contact Customer Service to check entitlements on your account.

So to get this straight, The PPC Linux is not a standalone version for the IBM Power8 platform, I have to have a host OS first then install either PowerVM or RHV for Power ontop of the Host OS, then load the RHEL PPC BE? What host OS must we use?

You'd use PowerVM to define an LPAR, then install RHEL for Power inside that LPAR. So the PowerVM hypervisor is what runs on the bare metal.

When using RHV for Power, that runs on the bare metal instead of PowerVM. You'd then install RHEL for Power as a KVM guest within RHV for Power.
