No package samba available.

Latest response

How can I install samba server for shares with Windows? I'm using RHEL 7.3 desktop. "Yum install samba" keeps coming up empty. I've tried adding the "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Desktop - Optional (RPMs)" but still the same message, "No package samba available."

Thank you.

Hi Ed,

The samba package is really a part of the Optional repository for the Desktop variant of RHEL. See https://access.redhat.com/downloads/content/rhel---7/x86_64/2429/samba/4.4.4-12.el7_3/x86_64/fd431d51/package.

Is your system properly registered?

Thanks Robert, that did the trick. I didn't read the repo that I enabled properly. Now everything is fine, samba has been installed, configured and is running just fine.
