Migrate volume from Red Hat Storage Server 3.0 Update 1 cluster to Glusterfs 3.10 opensource cluster

Latest response

Hi everybody,

We have 6 x Red Hat Storage Server 3.0 Update 1/ gluster servers in a cluster on RHEL 6.8 They run Gluster version 3.6

My task
I have to migrate several volumes to glusterfs community 3.10 or 3.8 on a new cluster.
I have to keep the Red Hat Storage Server cluster available because this won't be decommissioned.

Can I do this
Add a glusterfs server running 3.8 or 3.10 to the Redhat Storage Server 3.0/Update1 cluster.
Migrate the volume to the new server.
Remove the server from the old cluster.
Add the server back into the 3.10/3.8 cluster

Is this possible and does any body have any advice when mixing gluster versions on servers?

These RPMs are installed on Red Hat Storage Server 3.0 Update 1

Hi Sophie, I'm assuming you've already gone ahead with this, but just in case - I'd recommend taking a look at our compatibility article to make sure that your new gluster servers use an operating version that is compatible with the RHGS version on your existing cluster (30000 iirc).

https://access.redhat.com/articles/2356261

Note that setting a lower op-version on the new clusters will mean that features added after gluster 3.6 won't be used. I'd recommend setting up the new cluster, migrating the data, and then taking the existing cluster offline to upgrade it to something compatible if you want to use any of the newer features.
