How to determine and which release is used

Latest response

Hello,

I'm new to rhscl. So please bear with me if I ask some very beginners questions.

In Red Hat Software Collections Product Life Cycle I read that there are different releases of rhscl. But how could I choose which release (1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and so on) should be used? As I know there is only one repo called rhel-7-rhscl-rpms available in subscription-manager.

And how could I check which rhscl release ist used on my system?

Thanks for your answers in advance.

Regards,
Joerg

Hi Jörg,

You generally should always use the latest available stable version of any software being installed - which as of today is Red Hat Software Collections 2.3 and after having added the matching repository, everything will kept updated automatically by running sudo yum update.

Only if you want to upgrade the operating system from one major version to another, for example from RHEL 6 to RHEL 7, it is strongly recommended to remove RHSC before and re-install RHSC after the upgrade ... because otherwise some things may not work properly.

Hi Christian,

So just to bis sure. If I have enabled the the repo rhel-7-server-rhscl-rpms im my current RHEL 7 release I am already using the current Red Hat Software Collections 2.3 release, right?

And if there is a new release of the rhscl I will get it automatically through the matching repo?

Thanks, Jörg

That's correct.

Hi Jörg,

yes, exactly ... don't forget to read all information provided in the documentation before installing something ... :)
