Activation key issues

Latest response

I'm getting the following error message when trying to register a system with an activation key:

"At least one activation key must have a lifecycle environment and content view assigned to it"

When I look in the management console under that activation key, the fields for "Environment" and for "Content View" are empty.

I'm sure I didn't configure something correctly, but am not sure where to look to fix it

Suggestions?

I should have included more system info above - this is Satellite 6.2, running on RHEL 7.2

Hi Paul,

According to Bug 1129376 - Activation keys useless without environment, this is the intended behavior for keys without content views. So, you need to submit at least one activation key with a content view reference.

Please, see Creating and Editing Activation Keys in the Red Hat Satellite Quick Start Guide for instructions on how to manipulate the keys (incl. selecting a Content View).

Ok, I created the "Environment" and "Content View" per the quickstart guide, and the "subscription-manager register" command went through without errors. However, when I run "subscription-manager list --available --all" the only available subscriptions I'm getting are for RHEL workstation (this server is RHEL 7.2 server) In the Satellite server console, under subscriptions | RHEL Server, it says 1 out of 1 subscriptions consumed, and under RHEL Workstation, it says 0 out of 1 consumed, which is why, I'm assuming, this is why only a subscription for RHEL workstation appears in the command above. I know we've paid for more than 1 subscription to RHEL server. Would this possibly mean there were errors in the creation of the "Manifest"?

Well, yes, it's possible because you need to attach a subscription (or subscriptions) to the manifest while creating it (see Creating a Manifest). Perhaps you attached a wrong subscription?

But it's hard to guess like this. I'd suggest opening a support ticket at this point to straighten out the various subscriptions.

After you have attached the subscription in the manifest, navigate to Content > Red Hat Repositories to enable it. You can also do that via Content > Products and then the name of the product. That way you can also select the Download Policy to On Demand to save time on synchronizing the repository.

See Managing Subscriptions in the Content Management Guide for more information.
