Problems accessing Red Hat Software Collections again

Latest response

Hello,

Two months ago I opened a discussion because I was not able to access rhsc despite I had a "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Academic Server, Self-support" subscription
You can see it on https://access.redhat.com/discussions/2700971

It solved suddenly and I had access to rhsc again. Yesterday the access to rhsc failed again so I have the same problem that was described on the previous discussion. The point is that my subscription ends on the 7th of March of 2017 so I don´t understand why it has stopped working again. Searching for a solution on RedHat Portal I have found this:

https://access.redhat.com/solutions/472793

"Customers with the following RHEL subscriptions can get access to RHSCL and DTS for free, but may need to initiate a special request for it:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server, Premium
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server, Standard
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation, Premium
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation, Standard
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Academic Server ------> This is our subscription
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Academic Workstation"

I have just made a request to www.redhat.com/wapps/try/RHSCL to try to resolve the problem. Anyway I don´t understand the following:

-If my subscription is active and I had access to rhsc, why does it stop working suddenly? Perhaps the access to rhsc is deactivated automatically after sometime and I need to request access to it again periodically until the end of the subscription? If this is the case it doesn´t make sense for me and I feel that is nonsense

Could anyone give me an explanation as well as some help about this problem??

Thanks in advance

Steven

Hello,

Anyone can help me with this ?? I'm totally desperate and it's very urgent. I think that it was a bad option to install RedHat (sadly it was proposed by me ) in my University and if it is not solved we are seriously thinking of moving to other linux distribution.

Thanks.

Hi Juan,

Based on the other discussion that you reference, it looks like you're trying to use Software Collections from the beta repository. There currently is no beta version of RHSCL available (RHSCL 2.3 has been released not long ago - in mid-November).

This is what I see on my test machine:

# yum repolist | grep rhscl
rhel-server-rhscl-7-beta-rpms/x86_64 Red Hat Software Collections Beta RPMs for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Server 0
rhel-server-rhscl-7-rpms/7Server/x86_64 Red Hat Software Collections RPMs for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Server 7 113

In other words, it's OK that there are no packages in the beta repository.

Please, enable the regular repository: rhel-server-rhscl-7-rpms:

subscription-manager repos --enable rhel-server-rhscl-7-rpms

See RHSCL Release Notes for additional details and instructions.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your answer. I understand it all now. The point is that our subscription only includes the rhscbeta as you can see:

-------------------------------------------+
Consumed Subscriptions
+-------------------------------------------+
Subscription Name: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Academic Server, Self-support (16 sockets) (Up to 1 guest) with Smart Management
Provides: Oracle Java (for RHEL Server)
Red Hat Software Collections Beta (for RHEL Server)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server
dotNET on RHEL Beta (for RHEL Server)
Red Hat Beta
dotNET on RHEL (for RHEL Server)

Colud you tell me when the rhsc beta will be available again?.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Juan,

That is quite strange. The 'Academic' subscription should give you access to regular releases as well -- not only to betas. Please, try to list all the available subscriptions:

subscription-manager list --available

Then you should be able to attach an appropriate subscription pool by running:

subscription-manager attach --pool=pool_id

Refer to the Release Notes document I linked in my previous comment.
