can't connect to wifi

Latest response

I'm using RHEL7 (version 7.3) on KVM. I don't get the option for wifi. In network setting I get only two options: wired and Network proxy. How can I get the option of wifi?

Hi Afshan,

by default, libvirt will present a virtual wired NIC to the VM. Behind the scenes, (in a default config) the network traffic will be routed to the live interface on the host.

If you want to test the WiFi hardware, you will have to present the device to the virtual machine using PCI passthrough. Please see https://access.redhat.com/solutions/22205 for details on how to set that up.

IIUC this has nothing to do with 'Red Hat Virtualization' as product, this is RHEL specific. Could anybody to move this to valid part of discussions' tree?

why is this RHEL specific and not a RHEV issue?

You are confusing virtualization on Red Hat Enteprise Linux with Red Hat Virtualization, ie. you confuse a feature - virtualization - with a product - RHV aka Red Hat Virtulization. RHV is not just RHEL with KVM, it is whole app stack built on top of RHEL and it has individual subscription etc... See https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/virtualization.

Ashaf can you specify your platform? A physical server or virtual machine?

Hi Jiri, Please do not lecture me about RHV. I have an issue with the portal, I have to use short messages. I want to know why this is a RHEL issue and not a Virtualization issue in general.

What Jiri is saying is this question was posted under the "Red Hat Virtualization" section which, albeit confusingly, is only for Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) the product, not KVM on RHEL. In the future, general KVM questions (non-RHV) like this should be posted under RHEL.

Hello Bryan and Jiri,

so the subject has been migrated to the correct category. We do not see any response from Afshan, so did Mark suggestion help or not? I think this the most important we need to provide more help or not.

Jan Gerrit
