Satellite 6 - Initial Configuration with an existing puppet installation

Latest response

Hi,

What would be the best approach to run the initial satellite server configuration (satellite-installer) on a rhel6.8 box that's already managed by puppet? i.e. already have /etc/puppet/modules etc ...

I'm asking because when trying to run the installer with the simple foreman options as presented in the getting started guide I can see that the installer is picking up on the the hiera and modules already present in the box which is causing a number of errors (something I don't get with an 'unmanaged-no puppet installed' rhel6.8 box where the installer runs without errors).

If you are trying to install the Satellite 6 server software, you cannot install it on a managed system; the documentation clearly specifies that no 3rd-party software--especially Puppet--or even a complete set of RHEL packages may be installed. Only a "bare" RHEL 6 (ideally, RHEL 7) minimal install is supported.

Thanks for the clarification James
