Burning .ISO to DVD on RHEl 7 server

Latest response

Hello, can I please get help on burning an .iso to DVD on RHEL 7 server? Ive enabled epel but there is no GUI tools to burn an .iso, I realize that its only for workstation or desktop but I really need to accomplish this.

I've tried to install k3b manually but cmake is just out of date to do the job.

You can find Brasero in the Workstation repository:

You'll probably need to download a few other dependencies, but the package search makes it easy to find them:

What if Jose only has a RHEL-7-Server subscription?

Hi Jeff,

On RHEL Server ? Eventually Jose can add a 3rd party repository and install Brasero from there. :)

Christian

It is in RHEL Server anyway. From what I see in developer subscription FAQ, server variant is the superset of all others.

$ yum info brasero

Hi Kwong,

Thank you for the hint. I checked it and you are right, it is in rhel-7-server-rpms repo now. Not sure since when, I think I remember that it was not available from the main repo some longer time ago. :)

If you don't need a GUI, you can use "wodim" to burn an ISO file to a DVD:

Install "wodim":

# yum install wodim

Find your DVD writer device:

# wodim --devices
wodim: Overview of accessible drives (2 found) :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
 0 dev='/dev/sr0' rwrw-- : 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVDROM DH18NS40'
 1 dev='/dev/sr1' rwrw-- : 'Optiarc' 'DVD RW AD-7260S'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Start writing the ISO file:

# wodim -v dev=/dev/sr1 speed=4 -eject file.iso
