How do I register RHEL 7.3?

Latest response

Hello, I just installed a trial of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 7.3 on VirtualBox. (I'm not sure if this is the right section for support.) Now, I need to register it. After bringing up "System Registration", I have to enter "my server url." It's just me at home on my PC and I have no servers. What should I enter for my server url? I tried my IP Address but it didn't work. I have a domain on Host Gator, will that work? Please respond so I can register my trial. Thanks

Hi, me again... I think I registered my trial. I ran "subscription-manager register" and entered in my login info it shows "Subscribed" for 30 days. I think that worked. In an unrelated question, how do I switch from run level 5 to run level 3? "init 3" freezes my VM. I tried using "systemctl set-default multi-user.target" and it shows it's on multi-user.target (Level 3) but my software I'm trying to install still says it's on runlevel 5. Does anyone know how to change the run level without crashing? Thanks. I'll try this in another forum.

You've simply set the target but not isoated, hence, u need to isolate the target using the command "systemctl isolate multi-user.target" to switch to runlevel 3.

Hi, I'm back. I successfully changed to runlevel 3 and made it to another error. Now it says: "The installation process was unable to synchronize cPanel and WHM. Verify that your network can connect to http.update.net and rerun the installer." This might be too easy of a question but how do I do that? Please respond so I can finish installing cPanel.

Hi Mike,

First off, it would be better if you started a separate discussion thread when you have a new question -- that way the title of the thread and the discussion itself won't be confusing.

To your latest question: it looks like a connectivity issue. Can you reach the Internet from within the virtual machine? (Again, please, take the continuation of the discussion to a new thread.)

Subscription entry via the key is not intuitive in the Subscription Manager screen. I will register with: (subscription.rhsm.redhat.com) is the default; but what if this is a computer that will never connect to the internet? So the question is: How do I put a key in manually?
