How to install susbscription-manager on a system not registered with Satellite?

Latest response

So we have RHEL templates that we use to clone to new vm's. These templates do not have the subscription-manager package installed on them and they are not registered to Satellite.

I moved the package to the system locally and tried to yum localinstall it, but it fails due to dependencies.

What would be the best method to install the subscription-manager package along with all of the dependencies to a newly created clone of the template?

Thanks all.

Honestly, I'd rebuild your templates with subscription-manager included. It is a pre-requisite to register to Satellite 6 meaning that for a RHEL system, you'd always need it.

If you for some reason you do NOT want to update your templates, (which again, I really think you should), the kickstart repositories are available via HTTP, and you can use those to install subscription-manager and its dependencies.

Thanks Rich. I was thinking that would probably be the best way but wanted to see if there was another way.
