RHCE renewal through RHCVA
Does anybody know if passing the EX318 exam (Red Hat Certified Virtualization Administrator - RHCVA) will also renew a current RHCE certification?
Red Hat's re-certification guidance doesn't appear to have been updated since 2014, so I'm not sure how accurate it is.

Russell,
My understanding is that they are completely separate, and you will still need to update your RHCE to maintain its currency.
Historically (not sure if it's still the case) it did work the other way for some specialist certifications such as RHCDS/RHCSS/RHCA where maintaining your RHCE would maintain/retain your RHCDS/RHCSS/RHCA for previous versions (situation I am in)
From my understanding RHCVA has always been a standalone cert.
Hello,
I have passed EX442 and EX405, both of them have extended my RHCE by 3 years (date of last EX exam passed + 3 years).
I think it is the same for all exam counting for RHCA.

This is interesting. It would appear that the certification landscape has changed drastically in the last 6-12 months as the RHCA doesn't appear to be what it used to be. They have also retired RHCDS which is interesting (following RHCSS).
I have been certified continuously since early 2008 and there have been a few major changes with certifications since then so I guess more changes aren't unexpected! I just find it strange that there is no updated FAQ or central document on exam policy and renewals etc.
The newest FAQs I could find were from 2014:

Apologies Russell as it appears I may be out of touch with Red Hat's revised certification schedule!
Yes, that is right. Any higher COE(certificate of expertise) would automatically extend the validity date of RHCE. But for RHCA the date would start from successful completion date of first COE exam. I see that this not fair. Sometimes it would take time to get all 5 COE exams to complete and by the time someone completes all 5, he/she would have spent a year or more. So, the validity date of RCHA should start from the date when some earns RHCA title till next 3 years.
Can someone from Red Hat provide a document that outlines the current testing/retesting and certification expiry policy? It's a strange omission from the currently available training documentation and faqs.
there is a download sheet in this red hat site, but doesn't look to be updated recently:
Thanks for this link, great information.
The date does concern me a bit, but it seems to match what is described above.
I find it interesting that an RHCE can stay valid by sitting EX300 only, is this true for transitioning between versions? eg. EL6 -> EL7. I was under the impression you always had to update with EX200 + EX300.
