SCL Contents and Tempo

Latest response

Has SCL superceded what used to be in the various "optional" channels (can't remember the long channel-name strings Red Hat used, but I think CentOS referred to them as "fasttrack"and "contrib")?

Are there plans to make a broader set of tools available? If so, how does one get access to relevant road-maps?

How frequently are components in SCL updated? I was looking at SCL 2.x release notes and
- The nginx version was 1.8 - the current "stable" version is 1.10 and the "mainline" version is 1.11
- The MySQL version is 5.6 while the downloads from the MySQL community site is 5.7.x
- (insert similar degrees of lag in the (few) other packages in SCL)

Basically, I've got tenants asking me "why can't we get off the company Satellite" and I have to tell them "it's not in the mainline or supplementary channels (and our IA policies generally preclude tenants from installing from project tarballs).

Hi Tom,

RHSCL are released every six months, but not all components are always updated. See Red Hat Software Collections Product Life Cycle. I'm afraid there's no public road map available, nor is there any publicly available info on potential planned additions to the set.

I believe the best way to request updates or newer versions would be to file a bug against RHSCL.

(The 'Optional' channel still exists, but it doesn't provide newer versions of software.)
