Satellite6 Package update question

Latest response

Hello,

I am running hammer update all command to update packages. I have noticed its not removing the old kernels. Is this expected?

Also how do you track the systems that are failed to update? Our environment is large and wanted to automate the package pushes. I am unable to find a way to capture error messages (systems that are failed to patch) without going thru each task manually in the GUI . Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Ramesh

Hey Ramesh,

I'd recommend opening a support ticket to get a definitive answer. However, I'd expect the target machine to keep some of the old kernels in case of an issue (so the old kernel can be used if a rollback is required, such as if the machine is left in an non-bootable state). Also, if you're not rebooting the machine after the update the new kernel will not yet be used.

I believe there is some new documentation in the works around patching and patch strategy for Satellite 6.2, this will be applicable to Satellite 6.1 and should address your issues.
