Adaptive Load Balancing "Mode 6" Packet loss

Latest response

Hello,

My current setup is two 1GB connections to two separate switches (eth0 & eth1). LACP bonding is not an option due to switch VSS capabilities.

I have Mode 6 enabled and everything bonds, however I have almost 50% packet loss. I have experimented with MII and updown delay values with no success.

Has anyone experienced this type of issue with these alternate bonding modes?

Evening,

What release do you use? Have you checked old / existing problems with bond drivers? Example: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/1292933

Sounds like one bonding slave is not working. I'd try each slave individually.

Hi Jamie,

You are correct. It ended up being a bad slave. However, It was my expectation that if a slave failed this mode would allow for redundancy without package loss.

What link monitoring mode were you using? If it was anything except ARP monitoring with validation on all slaves, then failure would only be detected if link actually went down. If link was up but the slave was in the wrong VLAN, that will be considered "working" with miimon, and possibly working with ARP monitoring without validation.
